Who Do You Want to be When You Grow Old? The Path of Purposeful Aging by Richard J. Leider and David R. Shapiro

How many times did people ask you what you wanted to be when you grew up? What was your answer? I remember my answers starting around age 6 and the answers changed over the years. The authors pose a different question. Who do you want to be when you grow old? While everyone is “getting old,” not everyone is “growing old.” Getting old is passive but growing old is active. It is a path of purpose and practice.

A collection of readable conversations, this work continues to unfold Leider’s work on purpose.

The book explores questions:

  • Am I living the good life my whole life?
  • How do I stop living a default life?
  • Am I having a late-life crisis?
  • How can I grow whole as I grow old?
  • How will my music play on?
