Where’s the Kindness?

“My religion is kindness” says the Dalai Lama

When incomprehensible events happen in our world and in our lives, kindness may be our response. Kindness taps into the heart of our shared spirit and humanity. Naomi Shihab Nye captures this in her poem, Kindness.

It begins:

“Before you know what kindness really is

you must lose things,

Feel the future dissolve in a moment”

Naomi Shihab Nye reads it and talks about how she came to write it.

Questions of the Month

How does sorrow bring you closer to kindness?

Self-Observation: Loving Kindness Meditation

For one week, practice this meditation upon rising or before sleep.

Repeat these words to yourself:

May I be happy. May I be healthy. May I be peaceful and at ease.

May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you be peaceful and at ease.

May all beings be happy. May all beings be healthy. May all beings be peaceful and at ease.
